Airplane trailer

From the beginning part of the decision process that led me to build a Kitfox was the ability to trailer the airplane. I want to be able to bring the airplane along when Bethe and I travel. To that end I commissioned a trailer through Custom Aircraft Trailers . Brandon Sorenson was great to work wit...

warped elevator ribs

When I installed the elevator ribs they were all nice and straight, so I didn't bother with stiffeners. But now after sitting for months the ribs that are not supported by the elevator structure were all warped to some degree... so I added stiffeners to them all. IMG_4319.JPG IMG_4320.JPG IMG_4321.J...

Wire support

The factory panel includes small c-channel trays to secure your wire bundles into to keep them from moving around... since I did not use the factory panel I've been looking at how to do this. I considered making c-channel trays just like what the factory offers, but as I was looking at my aluminum s...

Pilot cooling fan

The prop has arrived! While I'm sure there are still many little things I will need to finish this project, this is the last "BIG" piece that I have been waiting for. It took 13 months from ordering to delivery. IMG_4254.JPG This is an MTV-6-R/190-69... a hydraulically operated constant sp...

Re: My iPad doesn't fit!

So I got the new iPad Mini 6 mount in and got to work... I used the template I had 3D printed on the back of the panel to locate the 4 mounting holes, them moved it to the front to mark the panel cutout... IMG_2888.JPG IMG_2889.JPG I then used a cutoff disk in a grinder to make a rough opening... IM...

My iPad doesn't fit!

The best laid plans... can still fail horribly. While my iPad strictly speaking does fit on the panel... you can't see any of the switches when it's on there! IMG_2815.JPG So I had to go looking for another solution... try as I might there was no way to make a standard 10.9" iPad fit, so I will...

Remote avionics woes

So I thought the remote avionics tray came out great... but there's a problem. The main rack that holds the radios, audio panel, and VP-X Pro, is too far forward. The connectors on the front side of the VP-X protrude into the baggage area. The baggage area is just a sack, so it would still install O...

Elevator trim

I got the elevator trim wired and working, and also installed the trim position sensor and wired it up temporarily. I'm still waiting on the position sensor actuating lever to fully cure... it gets glued in place. Once that is done I can calibrate the sensor for the trim position display on the G3X....

AUX power and ELT

You can't have access to enough power ports nowadays. I have a USB A & C on the panel, and one on the center console. But I also have a 12V power port on the plates for the headphone jacks right behind each seat. I still need to run power wires for the passenger side power port, but the other 3 ...
