Body work

I have the tail tips 99% and am doing small touch ups on the body work. I hope to have the tail ready to cover soon. I find using superfil to be rather tedious... apply, wait a day, sand... apply more. I'm sure I will get better at it with time. It looks funny with the different colors, but it is ac...

Re: Vertical stab and rudder

Rough shaping is completed and a sealing coat of hysol has been applied. I'll have to go back and sand and fill, and perhaps put on another coat of hysol before painting.

Vertical stab and rudder

I finished trimming the rudder fiberglass leading edge and got it glued in place. I trimmed the top of the vertical stab leading edge fiberglass down and got foam block glued into place. Once the glue sets on the rudder I will remove it and get the glue mounted to it.

Why so few updates?

I thought I'd take a moment to explain why there have been so few building updates during the last 12 months. Here are 2 photos taken within a few minutes of each other on 26 Dec 2024... YawServo.JPG FireEngines.JPG I had spent a very productive day working in the shop on the Kitfox, when Bethe got ...

Re: Airplane trailer

On August 9th 2024 I picked up my new airplane trailer in Georgia... I drove it back to Illinois to load it up with a bunch of stuff at my mom's house, and then drove back to Fairbanks. The entire trip took a week and was thankfully uneventful. The trailer pulled beautifully, I'm really looking forw...

Airplane trailer

From the beginning part of the decision process that led me to build a Kitfox was the ability to trailer the airplane. I want to be able to bring the airplane along when Bethe and I travel. To that end I commissioned a trailer through Custom Aircraft Trailers . Brandon Sorenson was great to work wit...

warped elevator ribs

When I installed the elevator ribs they were all nice and straight, so I didn't bother with stiffeners. But now after sitting for months the ribs that are not supported by the elevator structure were all warped to some degree... so I added stiffeners to them all. IMG_4319.JPG IMG_4320.JPG IMG_4321.J...

Wire support

The factory panel includes small c-channel trays to secure your wire bundles into to keep them from moving around... since I did not use the factory panel I've been looking at how to do this. I considered making c-channel trays just like what the factory offers, but as I was looking at my aluminum s...

Pilot cooling fan

The prop has arrived! While I'm sure there are still many little things I will need to finish this project, this is the last "BIG" piece that I have been waiting for. It took 13 months from ordering to delivery. IMG_4254.JPG This is an MTV-6-R/190-69... a hydraulically operated constant sp...
